Train to Busan (Busanhaeng) really was a big surprise for me and probably will be for a lot of other people. The biggest reason for this is of course that it ain’t a Hollywood movie but a South Korean movie. Train to Busan is a modern zombie/action movie that offers some great chases, characters and of course rotten zombies! The film won a lot of, mainly Asian, awards. In total 23 awards and 35 nominations! The films scores a 7,5 on IMDB (72 Metascore) and a 95% on Rotten Tomatoes (88% audience score).
Train to Busan reminded me a lof of the World War Z film with its ‘high’ speed zombie chases, but personally I liked this film much more
PlotSeok-Woo (Gong Yoo) is a fund manager in Seoul. He is separated from his wife and lives with his daughter Soo-An (Kim Soo-Ahn). Seok-Woo doesn’t spend much time with his daughter or show affection to her. On the night before Soo-An’s birthday, Soo-An insists on seeing her mother for her birthday. Seok-Woo has no other choice, but to take her to Busan. Early the next morning, they board the KTX train for Busan at Seoul Station.
Before the KTX train leaves Seoul Station, a zombie like girl jumps onto the train. The girl is infected with a horrific virus that is spreading like wildfire. Seok-Woo, Soo-An and the other passengers on the KTX train must now fight for their lives.
